Tour Route – Indus Valley – Pangong Lake – Nubra Valley

Duration: 5 nights - 6 day s

Day-1

Arrival Leh (Alt: 11500 / 3505 M) - Acclimatization / Orientation

Arrive Leh and transfer to the hotel. After welcome drinks / breakfast, take complete rest for acclimatization to the high altitude. In the late afternoon, visit the city centre and take leisurely walk through the main market for general orientation. Later return to your hotel. Overnight at Leh.

Day-2 In Leh: Glimpses of the Indus Valley / Approx.80 kms round trip / 3-4 hours.

After breakfast, drive up the Indus Valley and visit the dramatically located Thiksey M onastery , a major Gelukpa foundation of Ladakh, dating from the 16 th century. On the way back from Thiksey, you may walk up the hill at Shey to visit Shey Palace where the main attractions are the two gigantic copper-gilt statues of the Buddha installed during the 17 th century. Thereafter, you may drive to visit the Druk Padma School which was featured as the Rancho School in the famous Hindi film, ‘Three Idiots '.

In the afternoon, drive to visit Shanti Stupa , a prominent landmark located on a great vantage point overlooking Leh town & the valley. Thereafter visit the 9-storied Leh Palace dating from the 1600 AD, a historic landmark which renders a unique heritage character to Leh Town. Wind up the trip with a walking tour of the main markets in the city centre. Overnight at Leh.
Day-3 Leh- Khardongla - Nubra Valley / 125 kms / 4-5 hours.

After early breakfast leave for Nubra Valley , driving across Khardong-la (alt: 18,380 ft.), famous as the highest motorable pass in the world. Nubra Valley lies between the Karakoram & Ladakh ranges, at an average altitude of 10,000 ft. Till closure of the trans-Karakoram trade route by the Chinese in 1949, Nubra Valley was a busy conduit for the Central Asian trade.

Reach Deskit (headquarters of Nubra valley) in the afternoon. Here you may like to visit the gigantic image of Maitreya Buddha (32 mtrs ) seated out on a hillock overlooking the valley, which was inaugurated by The Dalai Lama in 2010, Thereafter drive on to Hunder & check-in at your accommodation. Later, proceed to explore the white Sand Dunes where you can also take a short camel Safari on the double-humped Bactrian camel found here ( optional - direct payment ). Overnight at Nubra.
Day-4

Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake via Shyok valley / 155 kms. / 4 - 5 hours
Afternoon: - Pangong Lake to Leh via Changla pass / 150 kms./ 4-5 hours

After early breakfast, drive to Pangong Lake, along the Shyok - Durbuk road amidst spectacular mountain sceneries, en-route passing through the pretty villages of Aghyam, Shyok, Durbuk & Tangtse. Pangong Lake (alt: 14,500 ft.), the largest brackish water lake of Asia, is about 4-5 kms wide and about 135 kms long, of which about two-third portion lies on the other side of the Indo-China border .

After exploring the beauty of Pangong Lake for a couple of hours, drive toward Leh via Chang-la pass (alt: 17,370 ft / 5486 meters), 3rd highest motorable pass in the world. Reach Leh in the evening. Overnight at Leh.

Day-5 In Leh: Visit Sangam - Spituk Monastery - Hall of Fame Circuit / 90 kms.

After leisurely breakfast drive down the Indus Valley to visit Sangam (confluence of Indus & Zanskar Rivers). On the way back from Sangam, en-route stop at Magnetic Point on the highway to check the unique magnetic effect on vehicles & then proceed to visit the famous Gurudwara Pathar Sahib. Thereafter drive up the small hillock to explore the dramatically located Spituk Monastery . Finally on this circuit, explore the Hall of Fame (museum of military heritage) & War Memorial. Overnight at Leh .

Day-6 Depart Leh: Transfer to Airport

Early morning transfer to the airport for taking the flight back home.
